HSBC Reward Points Are Not the Same as Airline Miles
UK REWARDS · 4 MIN · UKRead an HSBC points balance in its own units before comparing it with Avios or another airline currency.
Start with the conversion
The listed HSBC Premier examples use 2 HSBC Reward Points to 1 airline mile. A 70,000-point HSBC balance therefore corresponds to 35,000 airline miles at that rate, before any partner-specific rules. It is not 70,000 Avios.
Earning speed is a separate calculation
The current World Elite page lists 3 HSBC points per £1 of eligible sterling purchases, equivalent to 1.5 airline miles at the listed 2:1 conversion. Non-sterling earning and fees have different terms; more points alone do not establish better value.
Read welcome offers alongside the cost
As checked on 25 October 2026, the official World Elite offer lists 70,000 reward points after £2,000 eligible spending in the first 90 days, with a published offer end of 1 December 2026. Premier membership and eligibility conditions apply, and the annual card fee is £290. Check the live page before applying.
Plan in HSBC points, then verify the transfer
Select HSBC Reward Points in the calculator and your individual Premier or World Elite card in the earning plan. The airline requirement is converted back into HSBC units. Confirm the destination list, minimums and transfer increments in the loyalty portal.
Common questions
Is the welcome offer suitable for every existing HSBC cardholder?
No. New-card, account and eligibility restrictions apply; the issuer decides eligibility.
