Build a Points Plan Around Your Normal Spending
EARNING PLAN · 4 MIN · UK & USSet a realistic monthly budget and let the selected card determine the everyday earning rate.
Use spending you already planned
Start with eligible monthly purchases you would make anyway. Do not include rent, transfers or cash-like transactions unless the issuer explicitly awards points on them. Rewards are not a reason to add spending.
Let the card set the base rate
The trip planner uses the individual card’s everyday earning rate automatically. For example, £1,000 of monthly eligible spending at 1 point per £1 gives 12,000 points over a year; at 1.5 points it gives 18,000. Those totals still represent a particular reward currency, not cash.
Separate bonuses from the base scenario
Welcome, category and annual spending bonuses can have caps, eligibility rules and deadlines. Our monthly projection excludes these so that the everyday scenario stays clear. Add a bonus to your real balance only once it has actually arrived.
Review fees and your progress
Record annual fees separately and pay the card bill in full. Update your saved goal when points arrive, your spending changes or the airline quote moves. A month estimate assumes the award price and earning rate stay constant.
Common questions
Why might my statement earn a different total?
Purchase rounding, exclusions, bonus categories and monthly reward caps can change the amount. The planner is a base-rate estimate.
